OUR MISSION
We are dedicated to helping those affected by cancer enhance their health and well-being through participation in professional programs of emotional support, education, and hope.
Our programs and services are always free of charge, to ensure that we do not increase the financial burden of those already coping with life-threatening issues. We serve all cancer patients - any diagnosis, any stage - and their families and caregivers. Our comfortable setting helps people find a sense of community among others with whom they can share, learn and improve their quality of life.

NEW!! Research Corner Week of Feb 15
• Yale University and University of Chicago (from 2009 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences) study shows Isolation may Increase Cancer Risk and Severity. This study reveals that rats kept in isolation are three times more likely to develop breast cancer, and that their tumors tended to be more aggressive than those of rats in tight social groups. The findings reported highlight the need to address psycho-social elements in cancer patients’ care, and past studies have shown that higher stress levels may weaken the immune system making illness worse.
• Indiana University Simon Cancer Center, Case Western, University of Texas - New Understanding of How to Prevent Destruction of a Tumor Suppressor: May Lead to New Treatments for Late-Stage Cancers. New research shows how a protein present in late stage cancer patients works to hinder the body’s ability to fight cancer. The protein “turns off” the body’s natural tumor suppressors, making it easier for cancer cells to spread. This new understanding may lead to the creation of treatments for late stage-cancers that are currently considered untreatable.

Please Keep In Mind: Medical treatment for your cancer is first and foremost. The Wellness Community’s emotional support and educational programs can be an integral part of your cancer care. Just as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other treatments address the physical aspects of cancer, participating at The Wellness Community can help you and your loved ones address the psychological and emotional concerns of not only surviving cancer, but living well after cancer.
